We operate a commercial-grade technology platform called Escent supporting the integrated suite of tools developed for our Student Instruction and Teacher/School/District practices. Every school we serve is given a customized portal into our platform providing them access to our tools and resources.


Knowledge Management

Our technology platform has a Resource Library containing multi-media files, work products, links, and data associated with our work with each school and district.  Confidentiality is preserved for resources and data requiring it. However, many can be shared among schools and used as exemplars. A customized portal into our platform is created for every school we work with so that it becomes part of our collaborative community.

Student Instruction Toolkit

Over 1200 SAT, ACT, and Common Core benchmarks comprise the foundation of our student instruction approach, and are critical to ensuring that growth is measured objectively, consistently, and in terms of the indicators that determine college readiness. The toolkit supports both internal school programs and our after-school instructional service, Precision Prep, allowing a school's instructional capacity to seamlessly expand beyond the school day.

  • Competency Model: For Mathematics & English, student growth is tracked in terms of Knowledge Strands and Mastery Levels (Student Dashboard Below)
  • Needs Assessment: Student needs are measured by a mix of online assessments mapped to specific benchmarks. Students are provided immediate feedback, in dashboard form, to sharpen their focus on their strengths & weaknesses.
  • Individualized Milestones: Root learning needs often fall outside a student's classroom focus. Learning milestones are based upon root needs so that maximum growth occurs. Every milestone points the student/parent/teacher to relevant instructional supports (Instructional Supports Below).
  • Growth Trajectories: As students routinize their personal continuous improvement cycle, their trajectories toward college readiness form. A permanent record of student achievements is preserved. Always visible to parents and teachers.
  • Data Integration, Aggregation & Analytics:  Our platform bridges a school's in-school program to it's after-school Precision Prep program. (Expanding School Capacity Below) And it allows for a wide range of analytical aids for teachers, principals, and district administrators (Aggregated School Dashboard Below).
When a student submits a Needs Assessment, she is immediately presented the results in dashboard form. Her data is also aggregated on monthly dashboards to form her month-to-month growth trajectory. Dashboard cells provide one-click access to relevant SAT/ACT/CC benchmarks, and the student's individualized growth plan accomplishments and milestones are indicated.

Every Knowledge Strand has online resources and instructional supports at each Mastery Level to help students focus on their particular plan milestones. From these resource pages, students can collaborate with instructors, catalogue evidence of their growth, reassess their needs, and update their plans as their needs evolve.

They don't have to wait for months for the next wave of standardized test scores, to then figure out what instructional adjustments to make.

School/District Observation Tool

Our best-in-class tool support standards-based performance improvement programs for districts and schools.  Each school or district can tailor a performance observation and monitoring process around its particular priorities and circumstances.

Our tool facilitates the gathering of performance data within and among schools. Our analytics help ensure inter-rater reliability and illuminate key findings. Perfomance data are stored in a database so that progress can be objectively demonstrated. And because our platform supports a community of schools, collaboration is encouraged so that schools in need can learn from the exemplary performance of others. 

Performance Standards: Over 130 Performance Indicators defined by the standards below are configured into our tool. Any subset of these can be the objective focus a school or districts observation and monitoring program.

The Evidence Map is an important output of our tool, summarizing the degree to which gathered data informs the analysis regarding the standards. The illustration below is an example from a Diagnostic Review spanning CO Standards for Continuous School Improvement. It shows, that 491 findings were captured in a 2-day site visit. And it shows the number of findings that each DR activity captured relative to each standard.

Detailed findings are integrated with each Performance Indicator so that the team can easily reconcile and synthesize their data. All findings are preserved so they can be recalled to explain the final synthesized conclusions.

Classroom Observation Toolkit

Our classroom observation toolkit, Collaborative Time In Learning (CTL), is an outgrowth of an idea of a teacher who wanted to explore how he could measure and improve his application of research in the classroom. Precision invested in the development of CTL because it supports an authentic continuous improvement approach for teachers. The intent is to:

  • illuminate opportunities to improve teacher understanding and application of research,
  • facilitate collaborative conversations about research relative to student impact
  • generate objective data sufficient for teachers to inform their teaching improvement priorities
  • produce a real-time data picture of how time is being used inside classrooms system-wide.

Highly configurable, each school can produce it's own observation template and satisfy traditional observation practices as well. The capabilities built into CTL are needed to analyze classroom variances within and among schools. These capabilties do not exist today, anywhere.

  • Over 30 pre-configured best-practice teaching strategies.
  • Histogram summaries of classroom time consumed, by strategy.

Comparing traditional observation tools to CTL is like a comparing a blood pressure sleeve to an EKG. CTL measures the instructional "process" and allows a teacher to immediately examine ways to improve that process.

School Time Analysis Tool

School Time Analysis (STA) is based upon the approach developed by the National Center on Time & Learning to better understand how schools are using time across a typical week and school year. Schools identify their use of time in three broad categories:

  • Academic
  • Non-core Academic
  • Other

Time utilization may vary by student - biases may exist for different student groups.  School time data analysis informs important conversations at schools that are seeking to optimize their schedule, maximize the time they have for student learning, and ensure equity across all student groups.  Results are often illuminating and lead to modifications in the school's time budget and instructional program.
